We addressed management dilemmas I was sometimes struggling with. I got a better view on how my career path should continue and how to obtain my future position wished for. Communication about my goal is key!
Birgit is great. She seems very experienced, sharp vision! Friendly! Was worth it!

First I have to say it was my first ever coaching experience and I believe I learned a lot from it.
During the process, I believe it gave me the opportunity to progressively and smoothly realize that I was doing good things and wrong things, without knowing why and when. Now, every time I have to take a management decision, I take time to understand how to best proceed. My initial view of management was that it was something natural, which did not request a lot of preparation. Today, I realize it has to be a systematic process which avoids improvisation.
I very much appreciated the quality of the meetings we had with my coach, during which the nature of our discussions was pretty open. It has been a very useful stream of communication from both sides, and both of us played the game in a candid and direct way. The fact that these meetings took place out of the office helped me concentrate since I was not disturbed by the usual flow of things to do. These meetings were scheduled in a way that gave me time to digest the former one while preparing the new one.
I would not be against the idea of having another session in the course of next year, as a follow up and make sure that I still am on track with my resolutions.

Take time with specialists’ helps to be more conscious of my management style versus my teams’ expectations and needs. See how I can better help them to improve their performance, and act accordingly touch by touch throughout the coaching process.
What I learned: Situational leadership versus mono-style “full-gas” mode.
This implies better listening to people, particularly when somebody is not in the right track for success. This will help me to provide management coaching in addition to business & technical support. This also will help me to evaluate quicker if a manager can deal with all of his managerial responsibilities.
HQN; Director, Back-Office and IT Systems, Major International Private Bank, Geneva
What I learned: Focus on what’s important to reach your objectives and develop a helicopter view. Develop more structure and organization in my day-to-day professional life. Manage the transition from specialist to manager/specialist. Better communicate internally and the importance of internal networking. Manage difficult situations, not letting difficult/negative/stressful situations interfere with my “peace of mind” and long term objectives. Acquired skills to manage conflicts (both up and down). Understand leadership and situational leadership. The importance of balance.
I found the assessment and coaching sessions to be very helpful and interesting. Birgit Samson is a great coach, both on a personal, as well as on a professional level. She really has the in-depth knowledge and skills to guide you towards a new/higher level of leadership.
It was a pleasure working with her.
I would recommend her without any reservation to anyone seeking new professional challenges.
AB; Senior Manager , International Bank, Zurich
What I learned: Leave out emotions. Be more visible. Silence can be considered as supportive to the opinion of others. You cannot please everyone: risk of not being appreciated vs. risk of not being considered as a manager. Anticipation and timely planning of future step, be it an international career opportunity, or moving back to Geneva.
SM; Senior Manager, International Bank, Zurich
The assessment gave me a better insight in my strengths and weaknesses/development areas. I especially liked the fact that it was combined with personal coaching sessions after. As I just started my first management job, it was useful to get support from Birgit on different issues. The fact that the agenda was fully adapted to my personal needs was also a benefit.
I would be really happy if we could continue these coaching sessions on a half-yearly basis. I believe it is extremely useful for any person in a management function to have an external coach with whom you can check your leadership development and discuss certain issues.
Overall, the assessment has been very useful to me. I would advise everybody to participate if they get the opportunity.
ND; Head of Central Europe Desk, Senior Manager , Global International Bank, Zurich
